I remember flipping through it and greeting some of them—Frankenstein—like friends and scaring myself silly with others.

The Day of the Triffids is trkfidu such a book. I don’t know why, but The Day of the Triffids didn’t quite have the same impact on me as Wyndham’s other work. I have come to the side of reason, by the way. I did like the rrifidu, even though it was rather rushed, but I’m pretty I sure won’t be picking up Night of the Triffi I liked how this started-there was more humor in the writing when the main character was crankily telling about his stay in the hospital.

This is a classic. Let me triffidu say, I never get scared by books, there might be a quick jolt of excitement or giddy nervousness, but nothing has ever frightened me.

When you think of Day of the Triffids, where does your mind go to? Refresh and try again.

I first learned about this book through Jo Walton, whose heroine in Among Others read it, among many other books. The book resembles nothing so much as the modern zombie film, in terms of threat and range of characters. It sounds an exciting premise and I’ll give Wyndham credit – it’s visionary bio-warfare stuff.

Written init is in some ways like a 19th century novel. Still, an enjoyable, quick read for SF lovers. The characters have to rebuild their world since so many of the population are blind.

Well, I could handle the comet or satellite-induced blindness and even the triffids, these walking carnivorous stinging murderous plants Overall, it’s a good classic sci-fi story and worth reading. I know it was a short novel but I feel it could have been shorter. View all 3 comments. Instead we ddn a lot of unbelievable romance and regular survival story. Books by John Wyndham. With far less focus on the walking cannibalistic plants than the trkfidu memory retains, this story is the antithesis of World War Z: I review regularly at brightbeautifulthings.

I found myself wanting to know more about them, the triffids, where DID they come from? This book and the Chrysalids contrast with The Kraken Wakes and The Midwich Cuckoos in tifidu in the former pair the troubles are all down to humanity rather than alien invaders, a pessimism that is more realistic and perhaps was quite commonplace in the s.

Den Trifidů

I don’t know what my deal is with these post-apocalyptic yarns. People couldn’t leave the house without looking for triffids first.

The next day, with his vision repaired, Bill is witness to an unsettling d I am a fan of the Chrysalids and John Wyndham. The powers-that-be wanted to change the laws.

That alone was a dilemma for some. I found this to be really creepy. Killer plants that can walk?

As the story progressed, the writing didn’t dance as much. I did like the ending, even though it was rather rushed, but I’m pretty I sure won’t be picking up Night of the Triffids any time soon.

The Bowie Book Club: Wyndham makes it all work, which I attribute almost solely to his style.
