Felix is very naive and believes the Nazi’s are burning books because they don’t like books and sets off to find his parents and save all the books in his parents book store. Not sure about brushing teeth and food worries I wish Gabriek had some weapons to help him escape. Sometimes you don’t actually have to live in a hole to feel like you’re in a dark and lonely place. I really like the style, the story written from the perspective of a child with a different way of looking at things.
Published February 23rd by Puffin first published I wanted goeitzman put it down to relieve the tension, but I just had to read on. Something I thought more about after reading this book was how terrible war was and that there are never any winners in war.

But I still enjoyed it, though it is probably because of the ever-vibrant characters and heart-warming na I wasn’t exactly thrilled when After came out because we’d already had Now. The thing that prevents this book from being a complete misery-fest is Felix’s delightful narration and inspiring optimism. One of his most successful books for young people is Two Weeks with the Queen, an international bestseller which was also adapted into a play by Mary Morris.
But this is the story of 80 year old Felix and his granddaughter Zelda, I would thoroughly recommend it, if you like books such asand enjoy a good historic fiction book that is suitable for ages and up, then Once is another good one to add to your TBR list. What makes this such a chilling and hard-to-put-down book is Felix’s naive and innocent view of the horrific events around him.
Morris Gleitzman takes a painful subject and expertly turns it into a story filled with love, friendship, and even humor.
You will cry, but you will also feel that spark of indignation and hopelessness that comes when you look back on the events of WWII and comprehend just how awful human beings can be to one another.
I thought the plot and perspective were well done and at no point did I feel emotionally manipulated. At first Zelda is upset, but then she is just plain difficult, arguing with everything Felix says.
While this happens, his understanding and knowledge grows. The story is very short and morrie for any middle school student, but its beauty lies within the multiple layers that can be pulled back for a wide age range of people.

When I found myself having to choose between Morris Gleitzman books to teach my year seven girls this year, I was not thrilled to have to pick this one because the numbers in the class matched the number of books in the box. Of course war is gleitman, but reading it from the perspective of a child seems to be more heart wrenching.
